A mindset hack for saying yes to more

Read time: 4 minutes

I posted this quote on LinkedIn earlier this week, and didn’t think much of it.

When I returned a while later, I saw it had gone viral.

Over 7000 likes, and hundreds of comments from people inspired to embrace their next opportunity.

I posted it because it’s a quote I resonate with, and a principle I’ve always lived by.

It seems many others could relate to the sentiment to:

Opportunities arise, but often we don’t take them.

We don’t want to fail, or be judged, or we tell ourselves we’re under-qualified.

- But what if we said yes, and figured it out later?

- What if we believed we can master things as we go?

- How many more opportunities would we take hold of?

When I left a stable career and transitioned into entrepreneurship, I had NO idea what I was doing.

I definitely was not ready.

  • No startup experience.

  • No real backup plan.

  • No roadmap.

But through action, mistakes and countless adjustments, I learned. And I continue to learn today. That learning really has become my foundation for success.

These are 4 key principles I’ve adopted about the power of taking action before you feel ready:

1. If opportunity comes to you, it means you ARE ready for it—not the other way round.

Opportunities aren’t random.

They appear because someone sees potential in you, even if you can’t see it yet.

I was asked to deliver a keynote to a 10,000+ audience last year, and my first thought was: “I’ve never spoken to an audience this size. I'm not sure I’m ready.”

But someone believed I was.

Saying yes taught me that readiness is having trust in your ability to learn, adapt, and deliver.

If an opportunity arises, take it as proof that you’re ready enough to start. The rest will follow.

2. If you have all the answers already, you’re probably too late.

The world moves fast; waiting until you have every detail figured out often means the moment has passed.

When I started Bloomful, I had more questions than answers. But that’s where the magic was: figuring it out along the way meant I could respond to challenges and opportunities as they arose.

Perfection is slow.

Action is agile.

Start before you’re certain, and you’ll stay ahead of the curve.

3. Being brave enough to commit is harder than doing the thing itself.

Saying “yes” is often the hardest bit.

Once you commit, momentum takes over.

I felt SO much fear before posting my first LinkedIn update, after starting my business.

Once I did, I realised the hardest part wasn’t creating content—it was having the courage to show up in the first place.

After that, each post got easier.

Once you’ve made the commitment, the path forward often feels more manageable.

The act of starting is often scarier than the process of doing.

4. Something magical happens when you take the leap

I’ve noticed that action has a way of dismantling fear:

  • You prove to yourself you’re capable.
  • You learn faster through experience.
  • You get clarity by doing.

Is there something you’ve been putting off because you’re waiting to feel ready? A new role, side hustle, or career shift?

This is your sign to take the leap. Trust yourself to figure it out along the way.

Readiness really is a myth.

The best way to seize opportunity is to start right now, exactly as you are.

How to stop performing and start building leverage Read time: 6 minutes A few weeks ago, someone said to me: “I want to post on LinkedIn… but I don’t want to look like I’m trying too hard or add to the noise.” It’s something I hear all the time. Almost always from super smart, highly capable people, with a lot of knowledge and expertise to share. The mistake most smart people make on LinkedIn i...

How to stand out naturally, without being performative Read time: 7 minutes A couple of months ago, I attended a leadership workshop. At the beginning we did the usual thing where you go around the room, and everyone introduced themselves. Name, title, company, quick summary of what they do. By the time we reached the halfway point, I realised that I could barely remember most of them. Not beca...
